It works as expected, maintaining power when there is a loss. Good setup in back to allow quite a few items to be plugged in neatly. I do not notice any humming, and I am usually bothered with any noises, so it is very quiet.
The minor inconvenience of a low-level hum seems insignificant to me. In addition, since I have had to use this many times, the batteries are just about toast.but I will simply replace them and keep going.
I needed something to protect my TV, as I live in the Midwest during the summer, and power outages are common. I bought 2 of these about 2 years ago, and have been very pleased.
There is a low level hum, that frankly I no longer hear.and if you are listening to the TV or a movie, you will never hear it. This has saved my TV many times.
I use the second one in my home office, and it works wonderfully as well. It functions as it is supposed to.it saves your DLP when power goes out.

This backup device makes an audible hum whenever it is plugged in. I had to return it because I could hear the hum from the next room over. This is an audio device, why would Belkin think it is OK for it to produce distracting ambient noise.
However, after 3 years my unit has developed a problem where if I have a brief surge or power glitch, it shuts down. This hasn't helped. It's not the most fully featured but again, for the price it's good enough. Practically speaking, it's a decent value for a HT style UPS - most of the UPSs in this price range are going to be styled more as a PC unit to go under a desk. I've had this Belkin unit (actually, the silver model) for about 3 years now. Never had a problem with APC, but plenty with the others. All they could do is repeat the refrain of disconnecting everything, reset, allow it to charge for 8 hours, and reset again. I've looked through Belkin's manual and online knowledge base and don't find anything, and have had trouble getting any knowledgeable support.
At the risk of sounding like an APC fanboy. I have to manually switch it back on. It's connected to a DirecTV DVR, a DVD player and a VCR (which is mainly just a clock these days - need a UPS on it so I don't have to reset the time). I did get nearly 3 years out of it but would expect better. The battery level is fine according to the front panel meter, but the unit doesn't switch to battery, just shuts off. This is even worse than having nothing because the DVR of course has no power at that point and doesn't even get power after the event, and won't record anything. I have had several UPSs over the years, from 3 brands. Lesson learned, I guess.
I hook it up with a 46 inches LCD TV, an Onkyo receiver with 7.1 speakers, a blu ray disc player, a DVD player, and a cable box, the load is just over half. At one time my home's power go out and I had to use my computer to work, so I turn off all the connected equipment and plug in my PC and a cable modem, it let me work for over 2 hours until my home's power go back up. In additional, it is quiet, the huh noise is very very small, I need to put my ear beside the unit to hear it.
